A challenging day. Initially crossing boggy ground, then a steep climb up scree and rock scrambles to Scott Elliot Pass. The descent to Kitandara Lakes is straightforward, through an exotically beautiful mountain landscape.

Head south from Bujuku Hut
across the boggy ground
to the west of Bujuku Lake.
No boardwalk,
so progress is relatively slow,
hopping between tussocks all the way.
At just under 4000 metres,
the altitude is a factor,
and also close to the ever-moving cloud base.

As the gradient increases,
moving towards the jagged notch
on the horizon
which is Scott Elliot Pass,
the ground becomes firmer.
The path picks its way
among tree groundsels and helichrysum bushes.
